I remember,

when at the top of Mount Passot (A mountain found in Nosy Be Madagascar) that my Malagasi students pointed off into the distance and told me of a land off in the horizon, that could only be seen by night. It's real name escapes me, but i remember it translated to "the emerald city". It was thought to be the home of the Fadi gods by the local tribesman and is still considered a natural phenomenon, as light is said to shine accross the sky in an etherial haze. Scientists have their theories, but i like to think that it was something rather spiritual, and to this day it is, what I believe to be, my only brush with true spirituality.
